Taking A Break

21 Dec

Just letting you know I’m taking a short break over the Christmas and New Year period.

Time to catch up on some quality napping time, read a few good books, eat some delicious food, and take lots of long walks.

I’ll be back on deck in the new year ready to start blogging away again.

Merry Christmas, and a very Happy and Prosperous 2017 to you all.

2015 in review

4 Jan

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,400 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 23 trips to carry that many people.

It’s A Small World

15 May

I was looking at my blog statistics this morning and my attention was drawn to the fact that someone from Tunisia has been reading my blog today.  Hello to my Tunisian reader.  I hope you enjoyed what you read and will return again. 🙂

I was inspired to go and look at the statistical breakdown of where my readers come from.  I was blown away by what I read.

Seeing as WordPress is an American site, it is no surprise that my largest readership of 2,223 views is from the United States.  My next four: United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand also make sense, as they are also countries where English is the principle language.  Yes, I realise Canada is officially bilingual.  Don’t be picky.

It was after this that I got truly mind blown.  It is humbling to think that people in countries like Kazakhstan, Nepal, Honduras, Moldova, and Iceland are reading my blog and enjoying it.  Mind you, maybe not enjoying it so much, as many of them have only visited once.  However, thank you all for coming, even the once.  It is a pleasure and an honour to get to talk to you from Australia.

I do wonder why people read my blog sometimes.  I know I have a lot of readership from Sherlock fans, and Sherlock fans are damn near a universal constant these days.  Not to mention Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman fans.  Oh, and Graham Norton fans, because not a day goes past when someone doesn’t arrive at my blog whilst searching for the elusive Graham.

But a lot of my blogs are on books I’ve read, typically Aussie things, and thoughts I’ve had.  It really does amaze me that people seem to find the meanderings of my mind both interesting and entertaining.

What I am trying to say is, thank you for reading, and for letting me reach out to you from my small part of the world to yours.

Apologies

14 May

I was all set to do a blog post this morning…and then had computer issues that left me unable to get online for over an hour.

As a result, the only thing I am in the mood to blog is a long string of expletives.

As soon as the steam stops coming out of my ears, and my blood pressure drops to normal levels, I will be back blogging.

New Year; New Blogger

5 Jan

Well, not literally… but I have been busy over Christmas and the New Year.

Hence, no blogs, for which I apologise.  I have been taken the opportunity granted by my break to start an exercise regime, so hopefully your blogger will be writing lots of exciting blogs for you this year.

Blogging Blahs

7 Oct

I’ve reached a weird point this week – I have nothing to blog about!

I haven’t read any books worth getting enthused over.  Though that will change, the book I am currently reading is definitely blog worthy.

Haven’t watched anything good in ages.

Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t done anything particularly blog worthy.  I leave the “OMG, Benedict Cumberbatch is just so sexy I’m going to die” blog posts to the teenagers on Tumblr.

So consider this a minor hitch in transmission.  Normal service will resume shortly.  Just as soon as I finish my book, watch a decent dvd, or an actual air date is announced for “Sherlock”.

Fifty Shades of Blogs

16 Jul

Apologies for the title…I couldn’t resist it for this, my 50th blog post.

When I started blogging back in February I had no idea what I was going to write about.  Still don’t, really.

I never entered this with any clear idea of what I was doing.  I have noticed that many people write blogs on specific subjects.  I’m not expert enough in any one area to write exclusively on a particular subject.  My mind tends to wander all over the place like a ferret on acid, so my blogs tend to reflect this.

One thing I discovered very early is I really can’t write too much about Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock.  Blogs about either subject get very good readership.  Let’s face it, if people can’t look at the beautiful Benedict, they can at least read about what other people think about him.  And I hope like hell Benedict never discovers my blog.  I may just discover if it is possible to die from embarrassment.

Public transport has provided me with a few good blogs.  So maybe I’d best thank Yarra Trams for providing an entertaining traveling environment.  Without you etc, you know how it goes.

I think my biggest surprise in this venture came last week when Cote de Pablo left NCIS,  I wrote what has been my most popular blog post to date – 270 people read it.  The entry was also reblogged on a number of Tumblr accounts and the link tweeted a lot.  It is nice to strike a chord with readers.  I have also noticed the traffic on my blog steadily rising since then.  Come for Cote, stay for the comic relief.

So, here we are, at 50 blog posts.  Don’t know what the next 50 will bring.  I can guarantee you more book reviews, more dvd reviews, more shenanigans on public transport, more otters and hedgehogs…and lots more Benedict Cumberbatch.

Thank you for reading and commenting.
